Bieber claimed Rookel had misappropriated $806 from his deposit book. Rookel is painfully wounded.
Walter B Hill newly elected chancellor of the state university had a narrow escape in Macon as a runaway horse attached to a buggy bolted near the union depot. He escaped serious injury, with a fractured or injured right arm noted, while other parts of his body suffered less harm. Additional notes mention a Charleston rail project rumor and a court ruling on penitentiary debt.

Denver July 17 The Colorado Supreme Court ruled the eight hour act unconstitutional, applying only to mines smelters and ore reduction works. The decision follows a dispute with the American Smelting and Refining Company over wages for eight versus ten hours, leading to plant closures from June 15 until a wage-hour agreement is reached.
