Coal prices in Albany slump sparks lower retail rates
Albany reports a price cut of one to two dollars and fifty cents per ton, bringing retail coal prices to eight dollars fifty cents to twelve dollars a ton the lowest in over two years. Dealers cite high freight charges as the main barrier, with mine prices near prewar levels. Freight on a ton from the mines to Albany runs three dollars sixty nine cents.

January 24 report from Cordele states Willie Reese Perry, a young Black boy, spotted four hundred yards of fish plates, belts and scrap iron piled on the rails guarding a possible wreck on the Seaboard line. One of the finest displays of grapefruit on a tiny twig was shown yesterday. Mrs. J. Clarke presented the fruit to Times-Recorder. Mr. Clarke sent it from their grove in Eustis Florida. On a 13 inch twig the fruit appeared large, uniform in size and maturity. Clarke is noted as a booster to his Florida section despite his partiality toward Americus.
