Rail clerks gain pay rule change for intermittent work
The United States Railroad Labor Board issued new rules effective February 1 that abolish penal overtime before the ninth hour and permit split shifts for intermittent work. About 60,000 employees are affected as overtime pay shifts from the tenth hour onward. the eight hour day remains, and Sunday and holiday work may be paid straight time. The reforms aim to cut railroads’ costs by millions and allow redeployment to smaller stations.
