Power outage hits Americus and Cordele after line accident
A South Georgia Public Service Co transmission line near Smithville in Lee County failed last night causing Americus and Cordele to lose power until about 8 30 this morning. High winds and heavy rain are blamed, with an interrupted line not flashing due to a failed contact with a steel pole. Crews scoured a 15 mile area to locate the fault and restore service as soon as workers were notified. The steam plant at Americus remained idle until restoration was underway and boiler status was uncertain, with company officials uncertain about boiler firing authority during the outage.

Wheatley to report in condition of plant boilers here
Charles H. Wheatley city engineer will report tonight to the city council on boilers and equipment at the Americus plant of the South Georgia Public Service company. Mayor Poole ordered investigations into the electric company’s ability to operate without Albany hydro power. Wheatley noted defects in boiler pipes and said Americus had ten hours of darkness last night with no evident preparations to supply power from steam plants. The Bank Windsor hotel and police and fire stations drew power from independent plants.

Shiloh Farmers Plan Tomato Crops Meeting
