An old advertisement extols Johnson's Chill and Fever Tonic as a wonderful cure for malarial trouble. It claims the medicine enters the blood quickly and drives out every trace of malarial poison.
In Louisville a clairvoyant warned three young men of violent deaths within days or weeks, and they died soon after. A fourth, Dr Alfred Lemberger, was cursed last August and died on the ninth day. Tales of fate and fortune telling grow notorious as similar deaths follow predictions.
An inquest found Major Hal Richardson and his son Waren justified after Porter of Georgia was shot by Warren Richardson at Hamilton Ridge Hampton County South Carolina. Poachers confronted the pair on the preserve and raised firearms before the fatal shot ended the encounter.

Six masked men blew open vaults at the National Stock Yards Bank in East St. Louis, gagged night watchmen and firemen, and escaped with about $5,000 in coins and currency after a nine hour operation. Police hunt for the gunmen.
