The Commerce Chamber announces 145 new members have joined, all on one-year subscriptions at 25.08 each, yielding about 3600 in pledged income for the year. The re organized chamber is debt free and will plan operations based on funds pledged.
Washington Feb 7 Farmers, more than any other group in the country, will benefit by the immediate passage of the shipping bill now pending in Congress Senator Jones of Washington declared in an address to the National Merchant Marine Association convention He said if foreign ships alone move crops the farmer must await their pleasure and pay such freight rates as they charge
Atlanta February 7 A government official brands Dr F C Cook a fake in Georgia. The central Arctic discovery figure and oil stock speculator is accused of duping investors nationwide. The letter notes he lacks a business license and will likely never have one. The Georgia Securities Commission chief examiner cites Cook’s alleged divorce suit and alleged hundreds of thousands gained from dupe investors in Savannah inquiries.
A one million dollar offer for three fights to crown Champion Jack Dempsey emerges with plans to stage at the Polo Grounds New York this summer. Likely opponents include Floyd Johnson Harry Willis and Jim Beckett with light heavyweight champ Harry Greb also seeking inclusion. The New York commission’s stance against a Dempsey Gibbons bout shapes consideration though Greb would face similar limits. John M. O'Connor and Tom O'Rourke back the project.
Sumter county commissioners unanimously passed a resolution urging the national and state health departments to dispatch trained sanitary engineers promptly to survey the city and county. Vienna February 7 Trial of Caus ey Chapman negro son of Fate Chapman concluded with defense and state rested. Chapman denied conspiring to kill officers, saying he came to aid his wounded father Fate Chapman. Police clash at Fate’s home preceded a later confrontation with officers. Obert Davis of New Jersey involved.
Five carloads of hogs were sold in Americas Tuesday totaling 400 head weighing about 80,900 pounds and bringing farmers in Sumter County a cash value of 5,300 dollars. Tops sold at 7.11 dollars per hundred pounds with lively bidding from multiple buyers. The Jacksonville packing house sent the purchaser and the shipment went direct to that point. George O. Marshall noted the offering was a fine specimen and bids ran high. The next sale is set for Thursday February 15 at Plains with another strong countywide offering anticipated.
Washington February 7. The farmer needs a source of secondary credits to market crops and supply short-time loans. H. B. Peters representing the Georgia Country Bankers association testified today before the house committee on farm credits.
J W Treadwell a cotton mill worker from Tifton was killed instantly by a southbound G S & F Shoofly train in Adel Monday night. He had come with brothers T B and W F Treadwell and J W Dyess to obtain a burial certificate for his sister Mrs A L Farmer. Treadwell reportedly sat on a cross tie and was crushed. coroner A D Wiseman's jury ruled death by being hit by a train, absolving the railroad.
President Harding asked Congress to approve the war debt funding agreement with Great Britain as a pledge of English-speaking world commitment. He urged passage of an administration ship bill to prevent losses in securing funds on debts, noting ample time remains before Congress adjourns March 4.
Washington February 7 Today marks the conclusion of the Central American conference with signings after two months of negotiation by plenipotentiaries from Guatemala El Salvador Honduras Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The talks produced a treaty of peace and amity with eleven conventions and three protocols.

Rome February 7 The Associated Press reports police say arrests of communists and other dissidents across Italy provide irrefutable evidence of a vast plot to overthrow the Fascist government.
Preston Keen, a Brantley county white man sought for shooting his father in law, was arrested near his Brantley home by Sheriff Howard and brought to Waycross. The shooting occurred after Haney forced entry during a heated dispute, with a shotgun blast to the chest. A preliminary hearing is planned soon.
Three persons two men and one woman died in a morning blaze that partially destroyed the St Charles Hotel in El Paso Texas. Fire officials say the fire started in an ash can and note that damage estimates have not been made.
Essen Feb 7 The German information bureau says the French seized Lenner a Rhenish textile city along with nearby Kresbsoege and Bergischborn. Reports also note Ruhr industrial magnates and Hugo Stinnes declined to discuss negotiations on reparation deliveries during a visit to Essen.

A De Douette headquarters conference focused on restoring food transport to armies and civilians and restoring a twenty per cent normal passenger schedule.
