An unknown Negro was killed in Louisville yards by an oncoming locomotive.

Raise Cotton and Sugar Louisiana Convicts to Work on the State Farm
The Louisiana penitentiary board bought the Angola cotton plantation in West Feliciana to use as a convict farm with 8300 acres on a ven nial Mississippi River island. Convicts will be paid 25 dollars per acre or 215000 for one fee. The Angels is likely the finest cotton land in the region. The board also bought a sugar plantation in St. Mary’s Bayou Teche to Grand Lake for 75000 dollars. Convicts will be split between the two plantations and used for cotton and sugar cultivation.
