Indignation Meeting at Atlanta over Confederate veterans issue

A large crowd gathered in Atlanta on August 28 to denounce the Georgia House for defeating the Confederate veterans home bill. Veterans urged orderly action, debated marching to the artesian well, and heard speeches by ex-Confederates and Rev. Sam Small. The meeting adopted resolutions urging support for the veterans home and honoring those who voted against it.

Colored men depart for Oklahoma lands opening

Kansas City, Mo August 28 Fifty two well to do colored men led by R H Waterford of Memphis Tenn left there yesterday for Oklahoma where they will await the opening of the Indian lands soon to be thrown open to general settlement These negroes are from various parts of the south and expect to found a community once the lands open
