Chicago police identify a poisoning victim as John Dobson of Stockbridge Georgia. The death, ruled suicide, follows a prior fatal wounding of L Garrett during a flight incident years earlier. Letters found in the room suggest Dobson intended to kill himself.
The tale from Graniteville resident W. E. Barton describes an ear of corn popped by heat in his daughter's garden in Aiken County, South Carolina. He notes five or six such ears found, saying weather has been so hot it popped corn, a claim even the local weather prophet doubted.
