Rest for the President McKinley Heads to Pennsylvania

President McKinley and his party journeyed from Washington to Somerset Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Railroad to visit Abner McKinley. Missouri Troops Return from Chickamauga in Frail Health

A nine sleeper train brought 152 soldiers from the First Second and Fifth Missouri volunteer regiments to St. Louis. Many are gravely ill and were sent to local hospitals for care while others departed for home. The contingent includes 21 men from the First regiment stationed in St. Louis.

Admiral Schley Receives Big Ovation in Washington

Admiral Schley was greeted by cheers and a warm crowd at the navy department in Wasuixatoy as he met Acting Secretary Allen. Clerks and officers filled corridors, and ladies kissed him as he passed to the ice for Captain Crowninshield. He plans to sail for Porto Rico next Wednesday with the Porto Rican military commission aboard the Seneca.

Plans for Georgia regiments split proposed by Governor Atkinson

At Layta Aug 27 Governor Atkinson recommends war department allow Georgia First Second and Third regiments to choose whether to stay in service. If allowed those wishing to remain form one regiment with officers named by Atkinson, others to be mustered out as a solution to military troubles.
