Americans Die In Cavite Clash With Rebels

The Manila dispatch reports a serious fight at Cavite between U S soldiers and insurgents. Private George O Hudson of the Utah battery was killed after firing a revolver to draw attention during a disturbance. Corporal William Anderson was wounded, and four natives were killed as the Fourth Cavalry dispersed the rioters. General Aguinaldo denies army involvement and Admiral Dewey moves his flag. Privates urge to return home among the enslaved men of the Third Georgia regiment.

The Rathbone Sisters adopted an insurance feature like endowment ranks and voted to affiliate with the Neicent Council of Women. M Weare was elected to attend the Omaha meeting in October. The finance committee estimates meeting costs around 34000, with 11200 donated by the Grand Lodge of Indiana. The remainder to be raised by subscription and left to the grand lodge. The next meeting likely at Detroit, with Louisville still contending.

Miraculous Escape of 8-Year-Old Run Over by Train

George Lerri aged 8 in Oaxaca California was run over by a Southern Pacific train on a narrow city road. The train was descending a 30 per hour grade when he stumbled and fell in front of the engine into an excavation. He was knocked unconscious but recovered and appears well.
