Three French liner crew members were arrested after a raid seized 72 bottles of wine and liquor following a dinner hosted by General Henry Geraud for prominent Americans. The incident occurred after a dry dinner and involved attempts to moisten the after-dinner dance. Ship officials expressed amazement at the crew’s conduct and law enforcement in New York conducted the raid.
C M Council reports Eastern bankers, manufacturers, and business leaders acknowledge farmer distress. He says bankers cannot ignore agricultural interests and that East is awakening to the need for farm recovery to sustain national commerce. Frank C Butler is held on $1000 bond after a preliminary hearing for shooting Ada Stokes also known as Vivian Sanders 19 at Butler home in Savannah. The shooting followed an auto trip by Stokes and friends as she tried to frighten Butler then knocked and demanded entry. Two bullets struck her body causing serious injuries in the incident reported yesterday.
Alpha Bassett of Griennes Iowa faces a seduction charge after a two week KKK led probe from Atlanta headquarters. He was arrested with an 18 year old girl and the girl was returned to her parents.
Sumter County rural and consolidated schools start Monday September 3 for a nine month term. Consolidated schools at Leslie Thompson Thalean Concord Shiloh Andersonville Plains Pennington and Huntington begin then. Black schools start later to limit disruption to harvest with Rosenwald Industrial schools opening the same day as white schools.
Brunswick Rotary hears Representative Mann speak at Tuesday luncheon presenting bills passed by the Georgia General Assembly. He explains the Three Million Dollar Highway Bill, the state's largest tax measure, with an appropriation surpassing even the school funding.

Hundreds of friends from Americus and the county gathered for the Tuesday funeral at 10 o clock for Ernest Leonard Brady. His remains arrived from Jacksonville Tuesday afternoon. Services were at his parents home on Hancock avenue led by Rev. Richard F. Simpson. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery. Floral tributes reflected the high esteem in the community.
J G C Bloodworth of Atlanta is named head of the state veterans bureau created by the last legislature to aid World War veterans. The appointment was unanimously recommended to Governor Walker by the state executive committee of the American Legion.
