Torrential rains and a ruptured irrigation reservoir on the Pieshapa river unleash a wall of water through the Arkansas river valley in southeastern Colorado. Funeral for Infant Marvin Lew Is Speer

Funeral services for Marvin Lew is Speer infant son of Mr and Mrs Callie Speer were held Wednesday morning at 11 from the family residence 138 South Lee Street conducted by Rev Milo H Massey pastor of Central Baptist Church. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were S L McDaniel and W B McDaniel uncles of the baby. The baby died Tuesday afternoon after five days of life with many floral offerings from friends and relatives expressing sympathy.

Camp Meeting Begins at Shingleroof Camp Ground

McDonough Ga Aug 23 The annual camp meeting at the Shingleroof Camp Ground begins Friday August 24 and lasts one week. One of the oldest camp grounds in the state area it was organized about 100 years ago. Last year 164 families camped on the grounds and this year officials expect to exceed that number.

Columbus High Eleven to Get Special Work

Columbus August 25. Columbus high school's football team that won the state championship last year will spend two weeks in intensive training at Warm Springs this season. Coach Clyde Chestnutt plans to take a squad of 40 men to Warm Springs September 3. He said the trip would be strictly business and designed to sharpen the squad into mid season form.

Hawkins & Son to Exhibit at Sumter Fair hogs and poultry

Hawkins and Son report about nine thousand dollars earned from hog sales in the last year. Emmett C. Hawkins leads the Sumter county farm four miles from Americus on Hilaville highway with T. F. Robbins as chief stock farm assistant. The firm cares for about six hundred pure bred hogs with some valued up to three thousand dollars each. One or more pens of hogs and a display of purebred poultry will be principal exhibits at the Sumter county fair September 25 to 29, drawing hog growers and visitors to see the farm’s stands and other fair exhibits.

Rotary elects Hearn to Americus club

Rufus Hearn photographer was received into the Americus Rotary club as a photographer. He recently returned from Macon where he lived eight or nine years and was a Macon Rotary member. George Marshall county agent guest. he asked Rotary to help at a fair. John West Sheffield and Frank Harrold spoke at luncheon. No noon session next week due to inter-city meet August 30 with about 250 visiting Rotarians.
