In Springfield Missouri on July 28 Charles Weyley aged 25 formerly from Norwood shot and killed his former sweetheart Miss Josephine Sheridan at her home and then killed himself. The couple had dated four years and were once engaged to marry.

Chicago July 28 Two prisoners Fred Ennis and John McQuig and Sentry William Treet of Company M Twenty first Infantry guarding them have disappeared from Fort Sheridan. Search parties scour woods and ravines but no clue. Unclear if guard deserted with prisoners or was overpowered, leaving questions about possible murder.
In Paris on July 28 crowds clashed as clerical and anti clerical demonstrators protested closing unauthorized religious schools. Dozens injured including ten seriously and hundreds arrested as a long student procession joined the red flag outbreaks around the Strasbourg statue. Quiet returned by midnight. Similar rioting followed clerico moderate gains in Venice and Padua with clubs and mobs clashing until troops restored order.
Two bold assaults occurred in Atlanta between 7 and 10 pm within a block of Peach Tree Street. Victims include Mina Louise Martin of 185 Ivy Street and a nurse at Molmest sanitarium. a clerk, Frederick Geddings of 255 West Peachtree Street, was robbed near West Peachtree and Howard streets. Police have no clew yet.
A tornado in the Gulf of California struck Guaymas and Mazatlán coast, wrecking vessels and destroying buildings. The Pomeroy Ruby, a large passenger steamer, went ashore and sank near Mazatlín. Five people drowned. many vessels were damaged and presumed lost with numerous lives.
A Manila telegraph copy to the War Department recounts warnings to four teachers who traveled into Chu Island interior despite cautions from Inspector Ross of Cebu. They met the Cabal family’s feared Adoy and proceeded. pistols were denied, and the group ignored the warning, leading to tragedy.
A seven hour blaze on Liberty street in Pittsburg gutted two eight story structures and damaged others. Six firemen were injured including William Halstell and Lieutenant D. Leech as explosions sent flames across Liberty street around 2 AM. The fire, fueled by paint varnish and rubber stock, prompted heavy smoke and no definite origin, with about two thirds of the loss insured.
