Tito Lines Up Allies to Stand With West
Belgrade Oct 3 Tito declared Yugoslavia is militarily strong and ready to aid the United States and the West if Russia attacks. He urged closer ties with Europe outside the Soviet orbit, urged new collaboration with Italy, and warned against a five power Soviet plan he called aimed at destroying the UN. He noted Hungary Romania Bulgaria and Albania combined could field about one million troops. US aid, he said, has already yielded peace and a reliable ally in Yugoslavia.

Timetable In Polio Threat Notes Timetable In Polio Threat
In San Francisco on October 31 a report from Dr Morris Greenberg of the New York City Health Department notes that one child developed infantile paralysis within a month after receiving preventive injections for diphtheria and whooping cough. The chance of paralysis in the injected limb rises if the vaccine was given within a month before onset, while injections given more than a month prior do not appear to increase paralysis risk. Dr Greenberg presented these findings in a paper for the American Public Health Association.
