Mayor Klein Injured In Collision With Taxi

Mayor Gene Klein sustained facial injuries and tooth loss when his car collided with a Negroe taxi at Second and Tyler. He was treated at St Anthony's Hospital after being thrown from the vehicle. no head injury. Commissioner Bud Curtis assisted. collision occurred as Klein returned from State Chemical Company.

Phone firm cuts down on information

South western Bell Telephone Company will limit information service to numbers not listed in the directory starting Monday. A. O. Thomas, district manager, said operators will refuse to provide listed numbers except emergencies and will advise customers to look up numbers themselves. He noted operators handle about 5,900 calls daily and three of four requests are for numbers already listed. The aim is to free resources for necessary calls and speed service, a plan also awaiting adoption in larger cities.

Spooks Blamed For Boat and Trailer Theft

Mrs. Paul Fuqua reported the theft of a boat and trailer valued at 400 dollars, found missing from a trailer parked near her Virginia residence. J. L. King, chief of detectives, said Halloween pranksters likely took the boat and trailer and expect they will be recovered.

Washington dispatch reports General Dwight D. Eisenhower will fly from his French headquarters to meet President Truman for a two day conference on Western European military problems. Press Secretary Joseph Short said the visit will occur Monday and Tuesday with a return flight to Paris Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. The trip was at Truman's suggestion and not prompted by any need in the Western European defense organization commanded by Eisenhower.

Plan to tighten vice war in Amarillo using injunctions

Amarillo plans a continuing anti vice campaign with a full time vice squad in the police department. The city commission will pursue injunctions against owners of hotels rooming houses and other buildings used for prostitution. Heavier penalties for vagrants and arrests of those frequenting such places are part of the push. Mayor Gene Klein said the drive will be ongoing and not a short lived effort.

Gas blasts ruin Halloween parade in Pittsburgh

A gas main explosion at Max Davidson confectionery in Beltzhoover, Pittsburgh, killed 32 year old Helen Kellington and injured 23 others during a Halloween parade.
