Mrs Opal Walker, 39, died after being struck by a car on North East Eighth. Doctors ordered an autopsy at St Anthony's Hospital as authorities describe the death as sudden and unexpected. The report notes she was recovering from prior illness.
Mrs. Walker died after being struck crossing North East Eighth near a grocery store. Driver Carl Garrett claimed he did not see her until impact. autopsy sought with court order likely. Survived by husband C C Walker, parents in Amarillo, a son Billy, a daughter Delores, a sister and two grandchildren. Funeral plans at Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home.
Colder weather is forecast for Amarillo and vicinity as a cold front approaches this afternoon. Temperatures will drop to 38 degrees tonight with a high near 50 tomorrow following a day of mild warmth. The Panhandle five day outlook shows temperatures about three degrees below normal with colder midweek and a rising trend later, while rainfall remains moderate to locally heavy Thursday and Sunday.

UN forces attacked enemy defenses at both ends of the front, with advances near Kumsong Chosori Yonchon Punchbowl and near Panmunjom. Dallas report says the United States will swap scarce iron and steel scrap to Mexico for lead and zinc. Ernest L. Tutt, regional director of the Commerce Department, notes Mexico is a major source of lead and zinc and both metals are on the National Production Authority’s very short supply list.
A six year old Lad watches Thomas Edward Bunt at the free municipal cooking school taught by Frank Decatur White in the Municipal Auditorium. The final session begins at 1 30 tomorrow afternoon and officials warn to arrive early for seating as yesterday's opening session drew about 2000 attendees including women and some men.

An automobile and a pickup collided near Eleventh Avenue and Polk Street just before noon injuring three people. O D Faulkner 1553 Briggs William Hiatt 2411 Mirror and Johnny Grayson 1304 Johnson suffered minor to moderate injuries and received emergency treatment. Faulkner drove the car, Hiatt led the truck, Grayson was a car passenger.
Tragedy hits the Allgood family twice within two days as Judy Allgood aged 2 dies Sunday after being found with an almost empty aspirin bottle. John Henry Allgood, 47, dies about 9 PM yesterday, services for Judy held at Ivy Chapel with burial in Llano Cemetery. Survivors include Vernon D Allgood, two sisters Verna Kay and Charlotte, and extended relatives. Autopsy results pending. specimens sent to Austin for analysis.
In Tehran on October 30 thousands of Communist led students clashed with police outside Tehran University gates injuring at least 20. Demonstrators shouted anti British and anti American slogans while waving large banners backing Egypt against Britain and imperialism. Police and army troops held the line after the breach.
In Louisville a 19-year-old former soldier named Louis Francis Turini threatened to jump from a 19-story hotel. A blonde, Mrs. Connie Fry of St. Louis, talked him into surrendering to police after a crowd gathered below. Turini, from Boston, had been out of service three months and unemployed.
A crowded bus carrying suburban workers backed into a light pole during a rainstorm in Rio de Janeiro. A snapped power line fell on the bus, electrocuting four people and badly burning thirteen others.

President Truman signed legislation increasing railroad retirement benefits for about 400000 recipients. The 15 percent rise, roughly 100 million dollars yearly, takes effect November 1 lifting maximum monthly payments from 144 to 165.60 and minimums from 20 to 23. The law ties rail retirement to the general Social Security system for workers with under ten years of railroad service and sets up adjustments between the two trust funds.
One man is jailed in San Bernardino as a possible link to the New Mexico murder of John Gunnish near Tucumcari. Charles B. Broadway, arrested in Fontana, is a suspect with a companion at large. A “secret informer” tied the men to the case, but Broadway may not be Heisler. Officers compare fingerprints and photos, while Heisler’s image was rushed to the coast for comparison.
The International Bank disclosed Yugoslavia repaid a 2.7 million dollar loan for timber equipment. The bank reported a three month net income of 4.26 million dollars and total loan commitments of 1.1835 billion dollars as of September 30.
