Around Town items reveal multiple vacationers and new births
A collage of notes shows Mr. and Mrs. Underwood vacationing in Las Vegas at the Last Frontier Hotel while Dr. and Mrs. Rogers head to Miami and Havana for a dental convention. Numerous birth announcements appear from Northwest Texas Hospital with multiple families celebrating daughters and sons on Sept. 28–30. Other notes cover guests, moves, and social visits in Lubbock areas, plus hospital news and a deer collision incident in Mount Vernon.

Community Chest and the value of giving to others
The author recalls quotes from Aunt Het and references John D. Rockefeller to argue that giving enriches both giver and community. He notes Rockefeller’s shift to philanthropy, the joy of generosity, and Rousseau’s idea that a life is judged by what is given. The piece presents the Community Chest as a chance to help those around us.
