Four drownings after boat capsizes near Port Isabel
McAllen man Henry Mallau survived a fishing trip tragedy in a ship channel off Port Isabel. His wife Jennie 40 his daughter aged eight and a couple Mr and Mrs Henry Anderson about 45 perished as the skiff overturned in a gust of wind. Coast Guard recovered the bodies about an hour later. Mallau clung to the keel, later telling investigators the ordeal lasted hours though authorities say 20 to 30 minutes.

Sugar theft leads to fines and jail for three men
County Judge E. O. Northcutt sentenced three men for stealing 300 pounds of sugar from a Furr Food Store. John W. Orr received $500 and six months in Potter County jail. Albert Ray Cooper and Lloyd Johnson were fined $100 and jailed two days. Johnson paid his fine and was released. Cooper remains jailed.

Navy Orders More Truculent Turtles
The U S Navy contracted with Lockheed Aircraft for additional Truculent Turtle P2V patrol planes after the record breaking 55 hour non stop flight from Perth to Columbus Ohio. Cmdr Thomas Davies led the mission noting headwinds limited Bermuda reach. The aircraft with 8400 gallons of fuel has normal range beyond 13000 miles and carries offensive weapons.

Car Bus Collision Injures Eighteen Near Dallas
Eighteen people were injured when a passenger coach of the Eagle Bus Line overturned in a ditch after colliding with an automobile on Highway 175 between Dallas and Seagoville. Twelve were taken to Parkland Hospital and six to Baylor Hospital. the bus carried 40 passengers and did not burn. The car overturned but its driver was uninjured. Driver named Alexander Vanhill Trail of Seagoville.

Officer Is Charged In Denver Shooting
Ronald F. Smith a 23 year old Grand Junction police officer was charged with murder after a fatal shooting in the Brown Palace Hotel cocktail lounge. He killed Dr James Mullen 26 of Pocatello Idaho and slightly wounded Dr Roy M Green president of Colorado A and M College Fort Collins and Philip Van Slyck 26 a Salt Lake City salesman as bullets flew in a crowded lounge. Deputy District Attorney Paul A Ruston certified 31 witnesses to the shooting which occurred during the cocktail hour Monday.

Triple Execution For Young Killers
Wethersfield Connecticut reports the first triple electrocution. Three convicts James J. McCarthy 21 Danbury Arthur N. Tommaselli 25 New Haven and Raymond Lewie New Britain were executed for bludgeoning Guard Herbert O Parsell to death during a prison shop escape attempt on March 9 1945. The sentence lasted twenty minutes and Lewies eyes were removed in the prison hospital and sent to New York per his wish to aid a blinded veteran.
