Interstate Commerce probes livestock rates in western US
The Interstate Commerce Commission ordered a general investigation of railroad rates for live stock in the western United States. Hearings will be held in Salt Lake City on June 20, Portland on June 5, and Los Angeles on July 15, with later dates in the southwest and Mississippi Valley. A southeast probe was set for Montgomery on July 27 and Louisville on August 1. The commission aims to harmonize western rate structures by grouping points into three distance-based regions and asks shippers and railroads to prepare cost studies.
