Washington May 9 Assist Secretary Andrews announced that manufacture of whisky for medicinal purposes will be begun under treasury supervision in time to utilize the fall corn crop. The treasury would authorize such manufacture by possibly five corporations.

Roger L Babson urged President Coolidge to appoint Charles Lindbergh head of aviation. Babson said Lindbergh’s Atlantic flight test was only the start as he faces offers from film and vaudeville while weighing a possible government post. The White House withheld comment on the suggestion.
Tonight at 8 at the auditorium the Chanters of Khiva Temple present a choral recital with Nell Sansom Brown, soprano. Proceeds go to the Red Cross flood relief fund. Albert S. Brown directs twenty singers as seventy three Amarillo residents serve as patrons and patronesses. Public invited.
WICHITA FALLS May 23 A spirit of peace and harmony representative of labor conditions over the state permeated the thirtieth annual convention of the Texas State Federation of Labor as it began. Delegates reported the state enjoys harmonious relations between employers and employees despite some weak employment areas.
Galveston crowds favor Miss Bonney Winslow of Amarillo as the 38 contestants in the International Pageant of Pulchritude prepare for tonight’s final. Judges will pick Miss United States then the overall beauty queen from the foreign entrants for a $2,000 prize.
In Braggadocio Missouri on May 23 a 30 year old black man named Sherod was lynched by a mob. He was hanged from a temporary scaffold in the town square following an alleged attack on 31 year old widow Mrs Henry Hendershott and was shot about twelve times.
An admiralty communique reports Chinese forces on the south bank of the Yangtze river fired on the American destroyer Preble on Friday. The Preble returned the fire in what authorities describe as a hostile incident near Shanghai.
Reports from Flagstaff Arizona describe a collision involving two sections of the Santa Fe California Limited two miles west of the city. Twenty five people were injured and twelve seriously in the initial crash, with later notes of several more injuries as the investigation continued. Officials said no fatalities were confirmed at that time.
nationally known authority on city planning Harland Bartholomew of Kansas City will be in Amarillo Thursday for a zoning and planning conference. He will meet with the building code committee at 8:30 AM, tour the city, and join a 1:30 to 4:30 PM session with the building code committee, ending with a 4:20 PM public meeting in the Board of City Development rooms to discuss zoning and planning.

Policeman Bob Harmon recounts a Sunday morning Fox Drug Store robbery at 500 North Fillmore where $200 was taken. He says he did not shoot to avoid risking employees and bystanders, was later discharged for not confronting the bandits, and explains the perilous line of fire with three clerks between him and the armed suspects.
Washington May 24 The Postmaster General announced that bids may be sought for air mail service linking Dallas Waco Austin and San Antonio to provide overnight Texas Chicago service and faster New York to Texas delivery Extensions may connect Dallas Houston Galveston San Antonio and Laredo, broadening the network.
An oil field worker named Rickard, age 48, was found by a picnicking party on the road to the Harding ranch early Sunday morning. He claimed police that he had been robbed of $40 after being struck on the head and left there overnight. Ambulance from Blackburn attended.
