The long takeoff faced near disasters with the 6150 pound monoplane narrowly clearing wires and soft spots as spectators watched anxiously before he finally rose to begin the historic unmarked air trail.
A man identified only as C. P. Stringer, likely 35 to 40, died about 1 am while en route to St Anthony’s sanitarium from an alleged poison overdose. He stayed at the Olive hotel in Ranger, with an empty bottle and capsule package found. Inquest by Justice of the Peace C G Landis yielded death by poison in personal crisis intent. Harry F. Sinclair, oil magnate, received a three month jail term and a $500 fine for contempt of the United States Senate during the Teapot Dome inquiry. He was convicted March 16 after an eight hour jury deliberation and immediately posted a $5,000 bond pending appeal to the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Washington reports a settlement ending all claims between the two nations. Britain waives its claims and accepts British courts handling about 1.5 million dollars of residual American shipping and naval claims. The United States will pay claimants the shortfall when British courts do not grant full individual claims. No further diplomacy or arbitration is planned.
Police reports show ongoing thefts by petty thieves. W. G. Smith of 806 Taylor Street and J. W. Shepherd of 1910 Johnson Street reported thefts of small jewelry and clothing items last night.
