Soviets Grow Kendyr as Cotton Substitute
In Kazakstan the Soviet government advances large scale kendyr cultivation as a cotton substitute. Alexander Krasnachokoff leads the Kendyr Trust, predicting kendyr will reach a third of cotton output within two years. A 45,000 acre state plantation at Zil-Orda irrigates via the Syr-Darya, with plans to extend to northern Caucasus and Ukraine. Kendyr fibers, hardy and high-yield, enable textile weaving with standard spindles. Militantly, the piece notes Krasnachokoff’s past prominence in the Far Eastern Republic and Soviet banking, now returning to public life as Kendyr Trust chairman.
