Kiowa County deputy sheriff W H Humble was killed during a raid on a Roosevelt filling station. The operator Sam Allen was jailed after surrendering. both wives were wounded in Hobart hospital. A posse pursued Allen with bloodhounds from Granite.
Albert L. Randall won the contract for enlarging and improving the hog barn and two cattle barns at the Tri-State Fair grounds with a bid of 3650 dollars. The fair board accepts the bid and work begins immediately to support growing cattle and hog departments. Randall previously secured the contract for the new automobile building at 22000 dollars. Fair president Wilbur C. Hawk confirmed the bid and described the agreement after county bids were rejected.
The Associated Press reports Chicago's population at 8 373 758, up 672 048 since 1920, a 24.8 percent decade gain. Ten years earlier the city stood at 2 701 705, placing Chicago as the world’s fourth largest city and second in the nation. Celebrations erupted in schools and business districts with ticker tape and confetti.
City commission authorizes exchange of warrants worth 28000 as part of a 150000 series for paving contracts. Previous use totals 42000 from the authorized 150000. The move covers small payments to paving contractors via multiple small series rather than new issues.

Potter County commissioners would favor a city plan to erect a violation ward at Northwest Texas Hospital site. County Judge Sam Motlon said the city has not submitted definite proposals yet but discussions were held and plans would receive favorable consideration. The appropriation committee reports the second deficiency bill calling for a direct outlay of 66 million and over 51 million in allotments to cover government contingencies. It provides more than 25 million for public buildings and 10.66 million for initial Boulder Canyon dam work. The measure authorizes 51 million to settle war claims and increases authorizations for various building projects. It also sets aside funds to start a new penitentiary and federal jails.
Seaman J. B. Walker of Kittery Maine died heroically during a rescue aboard the Fairfax after a collision and explosion. He clung to a woman, tackling her to prevent a fall as flames and burning oil surrounded them, sealing his sacrifice.
It was later learned that 11 passengers perished or were unaccounted for while 12 crew members remained missing. Among the missing were many negro stewards who jumped to death into the flaming, oil-coated water after the crash. A female passenger died of injuries while being carried to a sister ship, the Gloucester, arriving at the scene aboard the Fairfax wreckage.
Paris reports nine nations signed off on the 360 million dollar Young Plan reparations loan. Bonds bear 5 percent interest sold at 90 to 98 in most markets. US share around 98 million, with 100 million direct to Germany and 200 million via the reparations bank in Basel for cash payments.

In Brooklyn a speeding car sprayed bullets killing George De Feo aged 24 and wounding four others including Joseph Ambrosio 30 Martin Goldstein 24 and a bystander named Farrell Deputy Chief Inspector Thomas P Cummings said the attack targeted slot machine racketeers.
Raymond Pascoe a 14 year old Scout of Troop 11 vanished from his home at 1702 Johnson Street Monday afternoon. Parents Boy Scouts and the Amarillo police chief W R McDowell direct the search while authorities appeal for information to contact Lemons Grain Company at 7316.
