Start Probe of Santa Fe Orient Deal
The Interstate Commerce Commission and Texas Railroad Commission opened a joint hearing on the proposed Santa Fe buy of the Kansas City Mexico and Orient line. Santa Fe offered 41.50 a share for about 35,000 Orient shares totaling 735 miles of line from Wichita to Alpine. Interventions from New Orleans and Missouri Pacific favored keeping Orient independent or maintaining current joint routes and rates. Orient president W T Kemper argued the sale is fair and could relieve the government debt while oil traffic has risen in Texas.

Keokuk Iowa July 24 Belief that the four Iowa geologists reported lost in Reindeer Lake region northern Saskatchewan are safe was expressed today by Dr Frank M Fuller father of John Fuller one of the geologists following receipt of a letter dated July 6 from his son at Brochet Canada in which he said they were leaving Brochet July 7 in good condition and with good equipment over a changed route Dr Fuller took the letter to indicate there was an error in a report from Regina that J M Cumines manager of the Hudson Bay company post at Brochet Canada had found that the geologists were poorly equipped and had inadequate food when he met them three weeks ago
