United Press reports Eastern Republican leaders after a New York conference will mount an extensive campaign in regions where Governor Smith is strongest in the east. Hoover plans a quiet campaign with California leaders and a visit from Senator Johnson to back him while Senator Pittman says Democrats will start collecting small donations. Kansas editor William Allen White foresees Democratic victory in the South and possibly other areas in November.
John J. Raskob resigned as chairman of General Motors finance committee while remaining GM vice president. He will resume head of the committee after Governor Smith's presidential campaign ends. GM directors accepted the move with regrets and anticipated his return after the fall election. Smith campaign operations shift from the Biltmore to GM Building at 1775 Broadway.
A meeting of dog fanciers is set for 8 p m Thursday night at the Amarillo Tri State Fair office 310 Polk street. Dr E F Lanham says all dog fanciers should attend as plans for a dog show at the fair will be discussed. The session was postponed from Wednesday night to allow inspection of dog owner catalogs.
Two men are held in Tucumcari on a Sunday night robbery of A. E. Hanks and C. H. Reese. The victims said they lost $19 to two hijackers on East Third Street. Police will pursue identification of the suspects in New Mexico.
Officers of the Womens Christian Temperance Union issued a nationwide convention call for Boston Massachusetts from November 14 to 22. The announcement was made in Evanston Illinois today.
The Tierra Blanco creek flooded beyond its banks after heavy rains. Local game warden S. D. Turner and volunteers rescued about 30,000 fish last week, with more work needed. 56 bass from one hole weighed three quarters to four pounds. Water in the Palisades lake rose over four feet since Saturday, per water works chief Ray Edinburg.
More than 1300 dollars in newspapers and 1000 dollars in pamphlets fund the Panhandle Plains of Texas Inc immigration program. Republicans plan a large New York camp to wage a campaign against Gov. Alfred F. Smith, with Sen. George Moses in charge of the eastern effort covering New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Delaware and Rhode Island. The move, aimed at uniting eastern GOP ranks, expects a hard fight over prohibition and Democratic strength centered in New York. Moses will direct the eastern campaign from an office to be opened, while Hoover’s role in the region is noted.
Governor Smith will be notified of his nomination Wednesday evening August 22. The ceremony on the east steps of the state capitol will be broadcast by a nationwide network of radio stations. It will begin at seven p m Eastern Daylight Time and is expected to last about an hour and a half.
Fifty Hereford cattle stampeded in downtown Kansas City after a Santa Fe freight wreck near Union Station. Nine cars derailed, three cattle cars burst open, cattle roaming city blocks, with steers knocked down by streetcars and unscathed escapes noted as guards and police cordoned off areas. Nearby witnesses reported widespread panic and animal control efforts.
Amarillo High school receives three half units of additional credit from the State Department of Education. One half unit in salesmanship from the commercial department and half units in advanced wood work and architectural drawing from the industrial arts department. Total credits reach 374 with full year programs in wood-work and mechanical drawing expanded by new equipment.
Ted Gruwell, 12, reported missing after leaving his parents at a local hotel during a tour. He was found yesterday afternoon waiting at Denver Station for a train to Denver, after seeking to visit the city alone.

Reports indicate scattered showers over a wide area, with farmers praising a strong growing season. Wheat may suffer slight damage but cotton stands to gain and cattlemen expect abundant late-summer forage.
