Arthur Brisbane comments on Hoover Johnson Reed and California politics and warns against cutting navy costs without air power. He notes Mrs Brooks Aten’s prize for a national anthem and ponders a patriotic song about industry and stocks. Seven delegates attended the Progressive party session in Omaha Nebraska. Eastern Republican national committeewomen plan a campaign to mobilize the entire family vote and will present plans in Chicago. Alexandra Dana Noyes argues that business need not fear a low mood with presidential candidates Smith and Hoover. Senator Pat Harrison discusses an anti split campaign in the Democratic South.
Senator Pat Harrison of Mississippi told the Democratic advisory committee that Democrats may mount a militant campaign to counter Republican efforts to split the solid South and swing states for Hoover. He accused Republicans of using non political organizations to cause defections but provided few specifics.
Newton D. Baker told reporters in St. Louis that the Democratic party has better chances for the 1928 presidential election than in years past. He refused to predict the ballot outcome or outline the issues, noting voters remain unknown and candidates have yet to present platforms.
A Democratic advisory committee member predicted Governor Smith would win in November. Another former Representative Jouett Shouse shared optimistic views on Democratic success in the West at the gathering.
The local weather bureau states the rain is over for now, welcomed by farmers and merchants. Amarillo has recorded over four inches since Saturday with five to six inches reported in parts of the Panhandle. Farmers see little wheat damage and expect benefits to row and cotton crops.
Col Robert W Stewart has checkmated John D Rockefeller Jr efforts to oust him as chairman of the Standard Oil Company of Indiana. The New York World cites an unimpeachable source claiming Stewart controls 51 percent of the stock by direct ownership or proxy. Rockefeller Jr demanded Stewart resign after he defied a Senate investigating committee over Continental Trading Company deals.
Two speakers addressed the Amarillo Real Estate Board weekly lunch at the Amarillo hotel. Miss Laura V. Hamner discussed the Birthday Club box supper at the High School Thursday night. P. C. Bennett of the Agricultural Dept. of the Board of City Development spoke on the milk problem in Amarillo and the Panhandle.
The Amarillo Park board refused the Hall ranch as a public park due to the price, asking $96,000 for 160 acres or $600 per acre. Despite endorsements by City Forester Temple Robinson and landscape engineer Dave French, financing could not be arranged. The commission is exploring other park sites and plans further development.
A Bar association report warns that prohibition profits fund a powerful underworld, strengthening cities, corrupting police and enabling broader crime. Hasly urges permanent offender confinement and active enforcement or repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment to restore orderly government.

In Cheyenne Wyoming on July 25 the Frontier Days festival entered a second day of rodeo thrills. Jay Snively bulldogged a steer in 23.15 seconds to win the event while Evelyn Archstein led the cowgirls in the feminine division. Mabel Strickland the so called Queen of Rodeos impressed with a tarret time of 37 seconds. Curtis Lindseth won the men's cowpony race and Pauling Sawyer captured the women’s relay.
In Phoenix Arizona on July 25 a bomb hidden in a bed exploded as J C Bauchard prepared to retire. The World War II veteran sustained severe injuries to his right shoulder and both hands but is expected to recover. The device used a flashlight casing with powder and iron slugs and was wired to an unused telephone circuit. No motive is known.
Two oil field workers were killed by burns from a gas well explosion nine miles west of Henryetta Oklahoma. Gas ignition caused the blast shearing part of a derrick and shaking surrounding territory.
Meeting of dog fanciers to discuss plans for a Tri-State fair exhibit will be held tomorrow night at the fair office 408 1 2 Polk Street. Dr EB Lanham announced the change late today. Griggs ambulance. Phone 4511. Hicks Rubber Co advertises tires at attractive prices.
Federal Judge Hickenlooper ruled against Mrs Josephine Scripps of Miramar California in her suit for an accounting from the estate of E W Scrippe and Robert P Scripps. Scripps as executrix of her husband James G Scripps sought an accounting of money and property alleged under a partnership contract.
A fragment of airplane wreckage with silver and bronze fabric was found off the Jutland coast. Believed to be from the Nun geasser-Coll plane the White Bird, the piece was sent to Paris for identification.
Hon J D Parnell of Wichita Falls will speak at the High School box supper Thursday evening, with Marvin Jones invited. B L Morgan sponsors, Judge W F Get will enforce time limits, and $10 was donated to the Orphans Birthday club by W W Lynch. The event, featuring Tunney Heeney bout round updates, aims for a brisk, under- two-hour program.
Amarillo distributors declare the milk war over posting whole milk at 5.20 per hundred pounds butterfat 4 percent. They say the cut to 4.0 was temporary and tied to a summer surplus no longer existing. Domestic use only home produced milk was distributed during the strike and price now posted at 3.20 per hundred pounds. Dairymen praise the distributors action.
In Texas the 1930s campaign heats up as Moody wardizes farm relief and hunting notes while Wardlaw Connally and Blanton hold brisk speeches. Owsley clashes with Connally amid crowds, while Mayfield opponents rally in Lockhart. Continuous multi-city speaking sprint marks the final stretch toward the primary.
