Board weighs fate of mental hospital head
WICHITA FALLS Jan 2 UP The State Board for Hospitals and Special Schools will decide next Monday whether Dr E F Dean will continue as superintendent of Wichita Falls State Hospital. Dean, suspended after visitors found him under the influence of intoxicants, faced staff shortages and a troubled personal life including a recent divorce and a brother’s death. Supporters praise his reforms and patient care, while officials note his instability and falsified records for a patient escape. The board may fire him but keep him on the payroll, with doctors’ salaries hard to fill at about $500 monthly.
