Air Secretary says Western airlift can keep Berlin supplied through winter
Secretary Symington and Gen. Vandenberg arrive in Berlin amid pessimism over East–West talks. They assert the Allied airlift will continue despite winter weather and Soviet opposition. Western sorties exceed 4000 tons daily as Soviet flights increase in the corridors. In Germany, coal shortages hurt industrial output while households face limited gas. A chamber of commerce meeting is postponed to next week.

USDA Reports Promising Yields For Spring Crops
The US Department of Agriculture’s weekly bulletin says spring planted crops are practically assured of good yields. Moisture is generally sufficient to germinate volunteer wheat in time for fall seedbeds. Northern plains counties, a favored area, got more rain and moisture reserves. Harvest of matured crops progressed across the state.
