Age Certificates Issued To Over Five Thousand Texas Students
More than 5,000 federal age certificates were issued in Texas during 1981 as public schools prepared to reconvene. Will iam J. Rogers, regional director of the U S Department of Labor in Dallas, notes that federal laws bar hiring under age 16 in interstate commerce and related processes. Employers increasingly request age certificates to avoid inadvertent violations, with Texas offices of the Texas Employment Commission issuing most certificates through arrangements with the Labor Department. The Employment Service is not an enforcement arm.
