Joe R. Brady has bought the Circle Service Texaco station on East Holland from Chas Livingston Jr. who opened it last January. Livingston departs to study veterinary medicine at Texas A&M, after operating the business since it began. Brady previously ran a Texaco station at North Fifth and Holland and spent four years as river rider for the Bureau of Animal Husbandry at Castolon.

A veteran educator, Mr. Smith, ends his long teaching career to establish an architectural practice in Alpine. His background spans Cuero San Angelo and Alpine, with roles as industrial arts instructor, junior high principal, and building inspector. He served in World Wars I and II and pursued extensive graduate study at multiple universities. He is a noted archaeologist and author linked to Sul Ross College and Texas institutes.

George Kempen Honored On Completion of Thirty Years' Highway Service
John Gillett and friends paid tribute to George Kempen Senior Resident engineer upon his 30 years with the Texas Highway Department. A 1921 Texas A M graduate, Kempen spent 20 years in West Texas and now serves Brewster Presidio and Jett Davis counties. He oversaw Scenic Loop near Fort Davis and highways into Big Bend National Park, plus Farm to Market roads, while planning Highway 118 rebuild from Alpine to the Jett Davis line. Porcupine Entertains Mile High Court Guests
FORT DAVIS Sept 19 Guests at Ira Hector s Mile High tourist court here were entertained by a porcupine trying to get into the Hector poultry pen. He dispatched it with one shot from a 22 calibre rifle. The animal weighed around twenty pounds and was the first porcupine seen there. The guests were disappointed because the porcupine did not sling spines.

Alpine Men Attend World War I Officers Reunion
Mayor Jon W. Gillett Mrs. Gillett and Val Richardson attended the 36th reunion of the First Officers Training Camp Assn in Dallas at the Baker hotel. Officers trained at Leon Springs San Antonio during World War I. four hundred twenty of the 800 living attendees were present from across the country. The Alpine men were recently commissioned as admirals in the Texas Navy and were given a court martial trial for accepting commissions while holding army posts.

Lobos Open Season With California Trip and Home Debut

Youth Held On Charges Of Marathon Burglary
A 15 year old from Rosale New Jersey is jailed in Marathon on burglary charges. He admits taking 43 pistol money and clothing from Ritchey Bros Store and attempting entry at the French store. He also admits breaking into S P railroad pump house using a pinch bar. Hearing before Distict Judge Fraser committed him to the Texas State Youth Development council. Plans mention Big Bend Post 70 top registration and a $130 fee for lunch barbecue and dance.

A price specialist from the Office of Price Stabilization will visit Alpine and Marathon to assist merchants. The specialist, Sam Blake, will remind firms covered by Ceiling Price Regulation 7 to file a supplementary form by September 29 and answer compliance questions. He will open offices in the Chamber of Commerce building in Alpine and at Parkway Hotel in Marathon.

Pistol Club Holds Its Regular Weekly Matches
