Contested Texas Election Decisions Affirmed
Pecos and Jeff Davis contests upheld by the Court of Civil Appeals in El Paso. The court ruled the county Democratic executive committee failed to determine whether nominations in the July 25 Democratic primary should be by majority or plurality, invalidating the second primary on August 22. In Pecos precincts, Cliett led the July 25 vote, Williams and Scott trailed. a run-off Aug 2 saw Cliett prevail. The court also upheld that election judges, though county Democratic committee appointees and candidates, validly signed ballots, and that no candidate may serve as election official unless fraud allegations exist. The decision affects the sheriff contest in Jeff Davis county and related ballot procedures.
