Highland calves set top price at Marfa Highland Fair sale
A top price in the Marfa Highland Fair sale went to Smith Bros of Marfa for 60 light weight calves at 11 cents. The three day event drew buyers from 13 states with about 2,000 calves sold. Grand champion George Jones of Marfa led steer calves to price ranges, while a serious injury occurred when W E Wheat, Alpine, was injured on an oil rig incident.

The Par ent-Teacher association will meet next Monday at 8:20 PM at the Junior High school. Plans for the annual Hallowe en carnival will be completed, with members to finalize arrangements and activities.
Cattle From Davis County Popular With Northern Buyer
Davis County buyers Joe Grimes of Dana and W E Jump of Paris have purchased Highland Hereford cattle from J W Merrill & Son for the tenth time in eleven years. Grimes bought three carloads of steers at seven and a quarter and three carloads of yearlings at seven. Jump aligns with Grimes and often joins purchases. They visit during Highland Fair time for the show and rodeo, with six car deliveries expected in late November.

Negroes Jailed on Robbery Charges
Spencer Harrison and wife are held in the county jail on robbery charges tied to the Sunshine Cafe theft last weekend. Owners Gordon and Mrs Ware returned from Dallas to find about $100 missing, hidden in an ice cream cabinet. A negro cook, his wife, and their nine year old son fled, boarded a westbound train, and were detained after callers heard of the theft. Harrison partly confessed taking money, with $10 recovered, and bedding linked to the Wares was found among the couple’s baggage.

Boy Scout Meeting To Be Held Monday In Alpine
A Monday 7:30 pm meeting at the chamber of commerce offices will discuss promoting Scout work in Alpine. A. C. Williamson, Scout executive of the El Paso area council, spoke after visiting the Big Bend area to spark local interest and outline a finance roundup planned soon. Alpine has about 125 Scout aged boys and aims to enroll all. At a Marfa meeting the Big Bend district was formed with Joe Nelson as district chairman and A. Vick Winter as Alpine local general chairman. Eleven Alpine men attended the Marfa gathering and organizers hope many fathers and supporters will attend Monday.

Granada draws $125 Money Night prize nobody claims

Completion planned for 90 highway segment between Marfa and Van Horn
D K Martin of the highway commission announced a signed work order will complete the 75 mile unpaved stretch from Marfa to Van Horn this fiscal year ending July 1 1987. The route runs through Lobo Flats near Ryan station on the B P U S O and will create an all paved link from Jacksonville Florida to San Diego and Los Angeles, greatly increasing traffic when finished.

New City Water Well Begun To Augment Supply
