Marathon Mustang Band to Receive Uniforms
Marathon school officials awarded the uniform bid to Sol Frank company of San Antonio for the newly formed Mustang band. Forty members will wear maroon and white regalia including full military jackets, white wutache braid, Sam Browne belts, and maroon trousers. The band, directed by FE Joe Lee of Sul Ross College, will feature a West Point Shako with white plume and new instruments purchased by the school board.

Cattle and calves receipts slip with mixed sheep hogs gains
Receipts of cattle and calves fell slightly over five days while sheep and hogs ran larger for the week amid erratic marketing. Fat lambs gained $1.50 to $2, yearling wethers up $1 per hundred, old sheep $0.50 to $1 higher, with stocker lambs up about $1. Slaughter lambs ranged $22 to $25 for medium to good, with higher over grades. Stocker and feeder lambs priced at $146 to $220.50, a few to $221.50. Cattle and calves generally $1 lower, with southern spots down $1.50 and some calves $2 lower. Plain yearlings and steers $15 to $25, young stockers $18 to $26, cows $16 to $21.50, bulls $15 to $20. Calves good to fat $21 to $24, other calves $16 to $20. Stocker calves $18 to $28, some top $27 later in week. Heifer calves $2 to $3 under steers.

An Eastern company developed a one man chain saw claiming equal efficiency in any cutting position. It targets low cost building, timber cutting, light felling, and limbing. Powered by a 3 3/4 horsepower gasoline engine, the saw offers an 18 inch cutting capacity.
