The Roark Estate sold lobby pieces from the Holland Hotel to the district. The haul includes 2 couches 8 chairs a desk a mailbox and a china cabinet now used as teachers mailboxes and nurse storage. Some pieces are worn but solidly built and will be refinished for use in Central and High School workrooms lounges and storage areas.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department estimates a harvest of about 945 pronghorn bucks during the 9 day antelope season in the Trans Pecos and Permian Basin area. The season opens Saturday October 3 with daily hunting from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. Permits issued total 829 across 7 Trans Pecos counties with Brewster 259 and Presidio 349.

Barrow resigns as Alpine fire chief after 32 years
Fire Chief Gordon Barrow of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department resigns effective today October 11. He served as fire marshal for 20 years and led the department as chief for six years, overseeing growth from one truck to three pumpers and two utility trucks. He attended Firemen's Training School at Texas A&M University in six one week courses. Barrow thanks city and county governments for support enabling the department’s current strength.
