University to Host Range Field Day in Black Gap Area

Sul Ross State University brings together about 50 ranchers for a two day Texas Section of the American Society of Range Management event at Black Gap Wildlife Management Area near Marathon. The program features field tours led by TPW biologists and graduate research papers on quail habitat mineral dynamics and desert bighorn history.

Adult Basic Education classes to begin in Alpine

Registration for Adult Basic Education classes in Alpine will be held Thursday, t. 8 at Alpine Junior High School from 7 to 9 p.m. Regular classes start Oct 13 and meet each Tuesday and Thursday at the Junior High. Courses cover reading writing arithmetic English plus general shop and high school equivalency prep.

Alpine High Homecoming Weekend Plans

Alpine High School announces homecoming events October 30 and 31 for all Exes. Activities begin with a pep rally October 30 in the high gym followed by a reception at The Stetson Club after the Eunice football game. A barbecue hosted by the FFA and a later dance are scheduled for October 31 at the American Legion Hall and to be announced location for the dance.

Elective options expand for Alpine Central Elemental School

Principal David Clegg reports fifth and sixth graders have new departmental electives alongside the regular curriculum. Sixth graders may join beginning band or American heritage or speed reading. fifth graders can study public school choral music or art reading. Fourth grade stays self-contained except for physical education taught by Sul Ross University assistants. A reading specialist supports grades two and three with about 50 students, funded by Title 1 federal funds.
