Governor Aids Native Rocks and Ranch Hospitality
Local notes recount hospitality at Burnham ranch and dozens of social visits and hunting trips across the area. Family travel includes Mrs Killingsworth and children returning to Hot Springs Ark, brother Edward departing for army, and multiple gatherings at homes and ranches with extensive community ties. A turkey shoot fundraiser netted about 63 dollars amid a card party and post office improvements while a Parent-Teacher meeting wraps, with Rev. Miller’s talk concluding the segment.

Noah Smithwick Volume Reveals His Limited Jurist Postmaster Career
The UT Library hosts a study of Noah Smithwick chronicling his roles as postmaster, militia lieutenant colonel, and justice of the peace in Webber's Prairie. He recalls delays in postal pay, a 25 cent letter rate, and a lack of formal office funds, while noting his bench work yielded no contested decisions. The piece frames Smithwick as a sharp observer of Texas governance and daily life in early days.

Notable Chief Resignation and Militia Commission Shuffle
The document portrays an official who, facing an unusual situation, asked an Indian adviser for guidance and was told to release him from duty. His public acts include four weddings. Upon term expiration his constituents urged a return to the judiciary, but he declined the honor, keeping only his militia commission. He claimed never to have taken a salary as justice and suggested the office should be shared, pledging to bear the burden when his turn comes.
