Mrs. O B Griggs Dies After Heart Attack At 36

Mrs. O B Griggs age 36 died at her home here early Sunday from a heart attack after years of asthma. Born May 24 1905 in Waelder Texas she married O B Griggs April 8 1922 in Florence Bell County. Funeral services were at the Baptist church with honorary pallbearers from Co B 3rd Bn Texas Defense Guard. Interment at Rock Creek cemetery. Survived by husband father W E McCall Round Rock sisters Mrs Tom Henry Copperas Cove and Mrs Will Nichols Austin and brother W D McCall Alpine.

Union Thanksgiving Service Set for Nov 26 in Alpine

Alpine proclaims official Thanksgiving on Thursday Nov 27 and hosts a union service at the Christian church on Wednesday Nov 26 at 7 30 pm led by Rev Ray B McGrew. Singers from all town churches will join the choir as local families note the holiday and school schedules adjust with Sul Ross College and city schools closing for the long weekend.

Red Cross Roll Call Boosts County Total Near 400

John W. Kokernot reports Alpine added 47 to the Red Cross Roll Call, bringing the county total to about 400 of a 900 membership goal. Marathon plans committee setup soon, expected to lift overall contributions. Alpine has historically boosted county totals.

Cemetery Association Seeks Funds Amid Repairs and Weeds

Alpine Cemetery Association appeals to members and the public for donations to cover recent improvements including a gasoline engine and 2 inch pipeline costing 424.45, plus ongoing weed control and care of paid lots. Unpaid dues hinder maintenance. donations may be left at First National Bank or arranged via Mrs. Daliman. A table of used pipe is offered for sale at 10 cents a foot.

Hunter Dies Of A Heart Attack In Brewster County

Hunter Oncar Le Metee, about 40, died last Saturday morning in the southern tip of Brewster County. He was reportedly in good health when his two hunting companions retired for the night. Funeral services were held in Sacemen with Justice Miss Virginia Young presiding. The body was prepared for burial and interment followed in Sulphur Springs. Brother C L McTee of Sulphur Springs came to accompany the remains home. He is survived by his widow. McTee operated a mattress factory in East Texas towns.

Park Cottages Are Completed in Big Bend Region

Two of six tourist cottages in the Chisos mountains basin area of Big Bend National Park are completed. The stone and adobe structures with Spanish tile roofs nestle among tall timbers, marking Texas first national park development. Plans for a hotel and more facilities are in drafting at National Park Service offices in Santa Fe, with land owned by the Texas State Parks board.

Children Play Draws Big House at Sul Ross

A packed Sul Ross auditorium hosted the Clare Tree Major Children's theatre production Sleeping Beauty on Tuesday with large delegations from Presidio Shafter Marfa Valentine Fort Davis Marathon and Sanderson. The DMF committee reported about 350 earned, 200 to the producer, tax deductions on the rest, and a small balance for next spring. Rotary PTA chamber of commerce El Progreso Study club Alpine Study club supported by ticket sales for underprivileged children. Sul Ross students attended on activity tickets.

Alpine Bucks to face Iraan for district title Friday

Alpine High plans to host Iraan for the district 6B championship after Alpine beat Fabons 40 0 in competitive play. Officials from districts SB and GB will meet Monday in Fort Stockton to finalize bi district playoff arrangements. A box supper Tuesday November 25 at the high school auditorium benefits football fund.

Deer season draws hundreds of hunters to the Big Bend area as Alpine Marathon and Fort Davis report crowded streets. Game Warden Ray Williams tallies 165 hunters checked during a 40 mile Rio Grande sweep in the southern county. Marathon logs 65 deer checked in one day as the season opens.

Alpine Bucks Win State League Opener 40 to 0 over Fabens

Alpine Bucks claim district championship and their ninth straight win of the season in a 40 to 0 Inter scholastic League football victory at Jackson Field. Rowland and Walker scored twice, King and Davis added TDs, Hargus and Har gu s shone on defense as Fabens struggled against Alpine’s power.
