Sul Ross hosts Sam Houston at Jackson Field at 7 30 p m in a must win game to clinch the Lone Star Conference title and boost NAIA playoff hopes. Sul Ross sits 9 0 and 5 0 in league play while Sam Houston is 4 5, aiming to avoid a fourth straight league loss. More than 5 000 fans expected to watch Texas sole unbeaten varsity.
Midland Chamber of Commerce directors voted to back a potential NAIA football playoff game if Sul Ross is selected. They pledged 12000 dollars and expect Sul Ross to be named only if the Lobos beat Sam Houston in Alpine on Saturday. Possible opponents include Southern Colorado State or Northern Michigan with a Nov 27 date and a decision on day or night play based on local playoff schedules.
Alpine High School earns 12 spots on the District 6AA All-District Team with six honorable mentions. selections announced after a Fort Stockton executive committee and coaches meeting list names for offense defense and specialist positions across Alpine Crane McCamey Marfa and others.
The Big Bend Sportsman's Club tracks a Trans-Pecos hunt from Nov 27 to Dec 12 with a Model 110 Savage rifle for the largest deer. Daily trophies go to the heaviest deer weighed each day. Tickets and contact cards are available through Alpine firms showing the club deer poster. A 225 calibre rifle is also mentioned. Bake sale note follows.
Alpine hosts Ballinger in the first round at Big Lake after both teams posted 10 straight victories. Tickets are $2 for reserved and $1.50 for adults. Alpine won the district crown. Ballinger claimed its district title.
