Wildenthal Named to Fair Employment Panel by Johnson

Dr. Bryan Wildenthal of Sul Ross State College accepted an invitation from Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson to represent Texas at a one day conference of the President's Committee on Fair Employment Opportunities for Minority Groups in Los Angeles. The meeting seeks community input from Arizona California Colorado New Mexico and Texas on actions to broaden fair employment opportunities. Wildenthal cited his language skills and Latin American familiarity as reasons for selection. The conference runs 9am to 4:30pm with a luncheon and informal reception Thursday evening.

World's Biggest Sleigh Visits Alpine December 4

Alpine merchants with the Chamber of Commerce bring the world's largest red sleigh drawn by six Shetland ponies to Alpine on December 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children with admission coupons ride with Santa Claus in his sleigh and have a personal interview broadcast via concealed speakers. Miss Merry Christmas joins as hostess as tickets are distributed through local merchants.

The Alpine School Board approves the 1964 textbook committee with Supt. Jack A. Frost and principals Charles E. Wade Guy C. Woodruff J. F. Richardson and Mary Kay plus several Central Centennial and High School staff members. Mrs Valenciela leaves for Panama City to visit daughter for three weeks.

Sul Ross lineman Agnew named top lineman of week

Sul Ross State College Lobos guard M. Agnew earned lineman of the week honors after a standout performance in a 21 21 tie with Sam Houston. Coach David Slaughter notes Agnew played with a cast on a broken wrist and a chipped ankle yet delivered another red letter effort. Damny Leinneweber of Southwest Texas was named back of the week and Poppy Rodriguez also cited.
