A dedication service at Sul Ross University unveiled the new $32,000 Baptist Bible Chair and Student Center. Speakers included J. Howard Williams and W. F. Howard, with Dr. R. M. Hawkins addressing religious needs of students. Open house followed and B S U officers were installed.

Mrs. Maron Cook of El Paso district president presided at a luncheon at the Holland hotel. Eighteen local PTA workers attended Alpine High School band directed by Mr Ralph Pau. Officers sworn in include Central Ward PTA president J G Walker and High School PTA president Kntheredge. Resolutions provided for funds to install blackout curtains for the high school auditorium.

Brewster County Teachers Hold Year End Meeting
The Brewster county unit of the State Teachers Association held its final meeting of the year at the Fig Methodist Church parlors in Alpine on December 10. A dinner followed at seven o clock. Ruth Hillyer of San Angelo, first vice president of the State Teachers association, spoke on progress, legislation, retirement, membership and ethics in teaching. Music by Ross Hise and Glenn F. Davis accompanied the program. New officers include President Herta Lassiter. First Vice President Paul Hill. Second Vice President N B Armstrong. Secretary Donnie Dutton. Treasurer Karl Bland.

John Carrico, Sul Ross band director for six years, resigns to become Director of Bands at Texas Western College El Paso He will direct marching and concert bands the all girl drum corps the Varsitanians and organize an RC TC band at the campus He helped Sul Ross bands win top state honors and pioneer large scale football show effects.

Alpine Man Found Dead Beside Parked Car in Missouri
An Alpine resident, formerly employed by Safeway and later a Dodge and Plymouth dealer, was found dead beside a parked car in Missouri last Thursday. He lived in Alpine since 1939 and served in World War II at Alpine’s army airfield. Funeral services were held in Bolckow, Missouri, with survivors including two sons and a daughter.
