City postpones paving program to next year
The city commission postponed a proposed paving plan covering about 20 to 25 blocks until next year citing lack of property owner interest and a needed 10-cent tax increase. May 19 Fort Davis reports County Judge Howard Bell ordered an election for May 25 to issue 37,000 in bonds for a three room addition at the high school to house vocational agriculture and band. If approved, bonds run 15 years at 3 14 percent with pay off option in 10 years. Purchaser is Columbia Security Co of San Antonio per Supt George Moore. Tax impact about 15 cents per 100 assessed, district already at 1.50 tax. If approved, two instructors will be funded by the state for the district. Trustees include James P. Eapy, A.V. Chapin, W. Grubb.

Radio Relay Installed By Safety Dept in Davis Mountains
A Texas Department of Safety automatic radio relay station near McDonald Observatory was set up to aid police sheriffs and state highway patrolmen in the Davis Mountains Big Bend area. The system strengthens back and forth talk between two way radio equipped cars and Pecos stations, extending range from Fort Davis courthouse to the Scenic Loop. Alpine Man Injured In Crash Near Marathon
Jim Crow operator of an Alpine recreational parlor was critically injured when his car hit the rear of a Marathon bound auto driven by Zove Decie during a rain storm Friday night. Crow received head and chest injuries. Decie and Mrs. Decie escaped serious harm as their car overturned into a waterfilled borrow ditch about 100 miles west of Marathon. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

Alpine FFA Boys Report On Calf Feeding Project
Alpine FFA seven members report 30 day gains on calves provided by local ranchers. Calves from Neville Haynes, Jim Lane, Kimbal Ranch, and O-6 Ranch show net gains from 63 to 92 pounds. Residence Damaged By Gas Explosion In Alpine Duplex
Early Tuesday a gas explosion in the kitchen of a northwest Alpine duplex owned by George H. Storey wrecked the structure. The blast blew out two doors and two windows and buckled walls. Occupants Mr and Mrs Jack Bell and Mrs Bell's sister Miss Moore were uninjured. Loss estimated at 1000 to 1500 dollars. no fire damage.

The Boy Scout finance drive in Alpine started with a kick off breakfast at the Holland hotel. Speaker Boyd Etheredge, a candidate for Eagle Scout, outlined Scouting needs and values to district boys. Don Littleton, finance chairman, and Yucca council vice president, led workers through drive procedures as RD. Wotan and Dr. Tom Coats sorted reports at the auditor's desk. The first $100 was raised within ten minutes.

Former Star on Cowboy Club To Play Pro Ball
Buddy Parker a Baylor university athlete and star at third base on the Texas state semi pro Cowboys baseball team last season has signed a contract to play pro baseball with the Chicago White Sox of the American League. He will report for duty with Waterloo Iowa of the Three-T league next month. Parker led Baylor football in scoring last season with nine touchdowns and led the Southwest Conference in stolen bases this season. He was also among the top extra base hitters in the W. conference this year.
