Miss Bet gene Slover of Alpine has the highest four year scholastic average among Alpha Lambda Delta members at Texas State College for Women. She received Oscar Williams edited poetry collection as recognition. Areall FFA Training School Held Here In Alpine Today
About 100 delegates from 40 West Texas high schools attended the Areall FFA Training School in Alpine with Alpine High School hosting activities. More than 120 FFA members and advisers joined a barbecue by the Alpine Chamber of Commerce after work sessions. A swimming party at Sul Ross State College pool preceded the barbecue, followed by a dance in honor of visiting delegates led by Charlotte Cox of Big Bend FFA district sweetheart.

A special grand jury empaneled by District Judge Alan R. Fraser no-billed Sheriff Jim Skinner in the fatal shooting of Jose del Toro, age 99, in South Alpine. Del Toro died early Friday after a shooting incident near his home. witnesses and officers said Skinner and Deputy R. A. Weber responded to the scene and a confrontation occurred. No changes in Brewster land and livestock valuations
Brewster County board of equalization last week set valuations for land and stock livestock. North and south regions showed different figures with stock cattle at 40 and 80 dollars, yearlings 25 and 18 dollars, and other cattle and horse values. Land values rose from one dollar per acre in the far south to 275 dollars per acre in the north.
