Mrs. Berta Lassiter, Alpine educator, to attend Texas Author's Day in San Antonio May 20 to receive praise for the May 1949 publication We Come and Go about Big Bend National Park. Reviews by the Fort Worth Star Telegram and San Antonio Light noted the work.
The Rev Woodson Mims gave the closing prayer at a devotional period while officers for the coming year were elected including Mrs Preston Johnson as president and Mrs R L Irving as first vice president. 60 people attended with six denominations represented. Mr and Mrs Pat Mulloy visited relatives in Texas. The Methodist Women’s Society met May 10 hosted by Miss Bertha Patton with Rev S M Mims opening prayer and study of Japan Begins Again. Ten attendees were served refreshments. The Avalanche notes library work and cataloging progress at Central with Catharine M Smith expressing optimism about future improvements.
A mechanic who has held an Alpine Texas automobile, a 14 door Buick Sedan with motor 43741520, claims a $110 charge for repairs and storage from 1949 to 1950. Albert T Howell, owner, was notified May 5 1950 to pay within ten days but did not respond. A sale is scheduled after June 12 1950 at King's Machine Shop between 10 am and 4 pm.
