Alpine Country Club Opens With Barbecue and Tour
The Alpine country club held a formal opening and initiation with about 275 attendees for a barbecue and open house. The converted army building sits west of the loop highway, south of Kokernot lodge, near the golf links, featuring two large game rooms, offices, rest rooms, and a kitchen. Dr. B F Berkeley oversaw the work and noted preserved native plants and added landscaping around the grounds.

Alpine Cowboys to Open 1950 Season With Benefit Game

Scattered Showers Hit Big Bend Region This Week
Local rains and showers fell across the Big Bend area Tuesday and Wednesday. Tornillo creek ran deep enough to halt traffic, arroyos were reported running, and another rain extended from Tornillo Creek to Alpine with diminishing fall near here. Alpine had a light shower, Wilson ranch area reported an inch by 6 p.m. Wednesday, and a two inch rain occurred east of Marathon. No reports yet from north or west zones.

City launches annual clean-up to aid polio fight and haulage
The city and county commission announce a joint summer clean-up with $3500 spent last year on Germ-breeding site spraying. County crews will assist May 22 to collect rubbish, loading it to dump grounds. Residents should place waste in alleys, cut trees to eight feet, and prepare for easy truck access. John Fowlkes a former Alpine ranchman and son in law of Rev and Mrs Fred S Rogers joined a Franklin Rotary rodeo in Tennessee on Saturday. The Nashville Tennessean ran a front page photo showing him teaching a reporter to rope a calf. The event was part of a combined Middle Tennessee horse show and a 44H club rally day drawing larger crowds. Harley May of Sul Ross and Bob Evans of Fort Davis were listed as attendees. City to Have Long Range Planning Survey Started
Horace H. Lee Jr. of Stephenville and Smith Brewer of Hohenwald Tennessee, workers for a Fort Worth firm, died in a Highway 67 wreck near Presidio after their pickup rolled on a curve. Lee was 55, Brewer 60. Lee left a widow and five children in Stephenville.
