Disabled veterans have made the red flowers in government and auxiliary rooms across the country for the May 27 observance. The sale funds welfare activities. makers earn nothing while the proceeds aid veterans and recovery programs.

Summer Time Brings Warm Up To Highland Area
Unseasonably chilly weather gave way to mid summer warmth at the start of the week with daily highs near 90. Local showers and rain fell unevenly across the Highland area over the past two weeks, with some sections missing rainfall entirely. Alpine saw .40 inches in two showers last week per Sul Ross College gauge, the city’s first moisture since early April when a .17 inch snowfall occurred.

City approves paving contract for West Holland Ave project
The city commission awarded a paving repair contract to Holland Page for West Holland avenue and nearby streets. Repairs include a half block on Sixth street downtown and widening the block between Fifth and Fourth on East Holland avenue from the J C Penney Co. corner to Alpine Lumber Co. The work will start after West Holland paving ends, in about two weeks.
