A high school council keeps a scrapbook of newspaper clippings common to Alpine with yearly summaries and photographs. Miss Johnny Weyerts sponsors the project, stored in the library under Librarian June Dyke and available for examination rather than checkout.
The Know Your City Schools column reflects Alpine High School activities for 1958-59. It covers the Alpine High School Creed readings, a school device repair tale, a Daughters of American Revolution writing contest winner Woody Hitchcock and essay on George Washington, and notes on student achievements in math, football, basketball, and track. It also quotes Principal James Crawford on automation impacting the high school science lab and future staffing needs.
Dr. Tom Coats was elected president of the Alpine Country Club at a Saturday meeting succeeding Pete Kennedy. Dan Ritter became vice-president and Jim Francois was re-elected secretary. New directors include Ritter, Dr. A. R. Ponton, Billie Weston and Bob Corkins. A barbecue for adult members preceded the meeting.
