Training Schools Set For Pecos Valley Baptist Association
Training schools will be held simultaneously in all Pecos Valley Baptist churches starting Sunday evening for one week. C Gardner of Dallas will oversee as state BTU secretary, visiting one day. Rev A Kidd of the mission will lead the school with help from a female worker from Simmons University Abilene. Programs run 6 20 to 8 15 each evening with a brief social intermission and refreshments.

Two Year Old Child Buried Here Monday
Walter B Jr, two year old son of Mr and Mrs W B Rogers of Marathon, died Sunday after a pneumonia illness of about two weeks and was buried Monday morning in Kim Grove cemetery. Rev Buren Sparks Baptist pastor conducted services at the home of Mrs Zada Benrens, the aunt. The Rogers arrived about a week earlier seeking medical help.

Casing Set at 1300 Feet Near Alpine Test Well
Preparations moved to set casing at 1300 feet at the McIntyre test well eight miles south of Alpine. Drilling has progressed to 1331 feet with the drill in brown shale and sand formation. The county test lies on section 31, block 382, W. J. Michell survey, drilled by Dad Joiner of East Texas fame and associates.

Only 181 Automobile Licenses Issued In County To Date
Registration at the collector’s office moves slowly with 181 receipts issued toward a yearly total around 1200. Licenses cover 142 passenger cars, 24 commercial vehicles, and 16 farm trucks. Deadline for payment of fear and truck licenses is midnight February 1 with a 20 percent penalty thereafter. No extension is expected this year, so owners should avoid last minute lines.
Consolidation of Safeway and Bread and Butter Stores
Announcement of the consolidation of the Bread and Butter store with the Safeway store in the building occupied by Safeway. Bread and Butter was acquired by Safeway from Frank Parker and associates last September and has operated in the original quarters under H. Van Fosson. Van Swearingen Dies in Angelo Hospital
P. R Swearingen known as Van a Par ma salesman in Alpine Fort Stockton now Fort Stockton died in San Angelo hospital early Wednesday from complications after an operation the prior Saturday. He was a popular salesman with many friends in west Texas and a member of the American Legion. News of his death brought deep regret to his many acquaintances in Alpine and the region. Funeral arrangements were being sent to New Bloomfield Missouri from his family in that city.
