Two Day Sul Ross Tennis Meet Opens Friday
Eighteen West Texas high schools enter the 6th Annual Sul Ross State College Tennis Tournament to open Friday with matches at 8 30 a m in Alpine. Schools sending entries include Alpine Barstow Odessa Ector Odessa Midland Pecos Crane Buena Vista Imperial Burgess Jefferson El Paso and Tech high of El Paso.

Art Courses Offered At Sul Ross College
Tex as artist John Findlater will teach watercolor and drawing at Sul Ross State College in the second semester. Miss Miltia Hill, head of the art department, announced introductory Monday sessions, watercolor landscapes Tuesday afternoons, and drawing Tuesday evenings. Tuition is 15 dollars per course with Saturday hourly lessons at 2 dollars. Findlater previously taught similar courses in fall and offers spring term in response to Big Bend area requests.

American History Month Proclaimed in Alpine Texas
Mayor W E F Lockhart issued a February 1961 proclamation designating the month as American History Month in Alpine Texas with emphasis for schools and organizations to study United States history and honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The proclamation cites DAR sponsorship and calls for public and private education to build a continuing heritage.

Ellis Owens Plans Rootplowing Near Santiago Peak
Ellis Owens, district cooperator in the Santiago Peak area, plans to start rootplowing this month to control dominant brush on the draw site including mesquite. Soil Conservation Service technicians Lamar Kay and Roderick Webb designed two earthen tanks for Bill Donnell at the Lightening Ranch southeast of Marathon with an excavated pit to store water below ground and reduce evaporation and wave action.
