Alpine Cowboys General Manager Jerry Brunelle announced a new metal roof is being installed on the Kokernot Field grand stand. Postgame talks eyed playoff site with Slaton High pending and cost estimates of 300 to 400 dollars to bring them to Alpine.

Bowling Alley Planned Here on Avenue D
Mr and Mrs Charles Livingston announced plans to build an eight lane bowling alley on Avenue D across from the American Legion Home. They recently bought the land from Mrs Edwards and land clearing has begun. The project will be run by their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Ted Scown who will relocate from Monahari with their three children.

F T Leary Laid To Rest In Marathon Funeral
Funeral services for F T Spud Leary 66 retired manager of the Alamo Iron Works San Angelo were held graveside in Marathon Rev Richard Lynch officiated. He died Friday night in a Temple hospital born January 28 1895 Kansas City Kansas married to Lou Anna Buttrill of Marathon April 30 1924 survived by wife two sons one brother and three grandsons. Leary moved to San Angelo from San Antonio in 1940 as Alamo Iron Works manager retired 1961 served on the San Angelo Board of City Development 1944 3 years pallbearers listed and a note about a visit by Frank Young and his wife to their son in Lubbock with sleet on the highway.

Big Bend Coca Cola Bottling to Build New Plant
Construction begins on a new Big Bend Coca-Cola Bottling Co. plant along West U. S. Highway 90 to double capacity. The Alpine site will host 120 bottles per minute, employ 10 to 15 workers, bottle seven brands, and serve Presidio Brewster Jeff Davis Pecos and Terrell counties with completion expected in about two months and operations by June or July.

Swimming Pool Opening Urged

Frost to Lead Alpine Schools as New Superintendent
Jack A. Frost 34, principal and curriculum director at Falfurrias High School, is named superintendent of Alpine Public Schools effective July 1, succeeding Peyton Cain. Neville Haynes, school board president, announced the appointment after interviews in Falfurrias. Frost holds a BS from Texas Wesleyan and an MEd from Texas Christian University, began teaching in 1949, and has led school improvements at Falfurrias including stronger math science and English departments and a new Guidance and Counseling Division. He is married with five children and serves in various community and professional roles.

Council members will oversee department budgets while considering water system upgrades including a 6 inch main to the East Well Tank and test pumping for Gardner and Meriwether wells.
